Number One Music has been a wonderful site for sharing music. I have just released a compilation of songs I wrote when an active songwriter in the L.A. area. These are acoustic and written from a songwriting perspective for use by other performers and entertainment media. I have really appreciated the response. When I was attending Junior College, the view was magnificent. I would take my guitar at school. When I was on a break, I found a hilltop and got inspired to write this song. On the CD I just happened to have a gorgeous picture, taken by Bill Buckheit on his travels to China, and thought it fit this song perfectly.
When I was 14, I was in a rather dysfunctional environment (aren't most artists <grin>). So I wrote this song to my mom. It was the first song I ever wrote.
When I wrote this song, I wrote it for my brother, Jimmy, who was three years old at the time. I had gone to live far away with my father. I missed him very much and did not know when I would see him again. So I came up with this song to let him know how much I loved and missed him.
I was in a songwriting class at UCLA. Buddy Kaye was the instructor.
Buddy Kaye produced, directed and did the book adaptation for the Grammy Award Winning "Best Children's Recording" THE LITTLE PRINCE narrated by Richard Burton.
Buddy (Jules Leonard) Kaye was a songwriter and lyricist who wrote hits for Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Dusty Springfield, and many others.
His best know songs include "Till the End of Time" (based on a "Polonaise" by Chopin), "'A' — You're Adorable (The Alphabet Song)", "Full Moon and Empty Arms" (adapted from Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto), "I'll Close My Eyes," "Little by Little", "All Cried Out" and the theme song to the television show "I Dream of Jeannie".
Our homework assignment was to write a song for "Donnie and Marie." "Nice People" became this assignment and I got an A. It missed getting on the album by one song according to our attorney at the time.
I wrote this song when I was dating this fellow in a beach community. I don't remember him being selfish now, but I guess this is how I felt at the time. There was a surfer who was on the front cover of Surfer Magazine, who wanted a serious relationship with me, but I wanted this other fellow. It didn't pan out with either one of them. I decided to move to another community.
I wrote this song after a on and off 2 1/2 year relationship with an indie artist drummer. It finally broke up. After a while I only remembered the good things of the relationship and went into a pity pot mode. He found out rock n' roll got him a lot of other women. After a while I found out rock n' roll could get me other men in my life. He freaked. It was finally over.
I wrote this song after meeting a gorgeous fellow who worked in the soundbooth of a club where I hung out in and performed at occasionally. We dated. I had a huge crush on him. Things just didn't feel right though. The clincher was when he asked me to spend the night and cook thanksgiving dinner. I gladly did. In the morning after getting the meal completly done, I was asked to leave because his girlfriend was coming over. Surprise!
I wrote this song when the indie drummer artist decided to move out (again for one of the many times) and move in with this gal who lived in his bands house. He was on gal number three now, excluding myself , and I saw what was going on. Isn't the rock life grand?
I wrote this song when the indie artist drummer started bestowing all these gifts on her. He learned all of this from me. She got nice things. I am happy to say this was short lived and he was back again. Was I stupid or what to keep taking him back?
This song was supposed to be comedic, but I just couldn't pull it off. My friend Pat had come up with the line, "Your love I guess I lost it, cuz I ain't no Farrah Fawcett, and I'm having tears for breakfast." My manager put me on another track with this song.
I wrote this song when I met yet another musician, starving of course. We dated a few times. What clenched this one is when I went over to his house where there was gal there in her midi-length sable coat, and the nice new Porsche parked in his driveway. He wrote the music to this song knowing it was fully about him.
